LA Dodgers 2022 World Series favorite

The first pitch of the MLB season is nearly here.

Despite fears of a delay due to owners locking out players, opening day has arrived and it’s time to relish in America’s Favorite Pastime.

The Atlanta Braves’ victory over the Houston Astros in the 2021 World Series feels as if it just happened yesterday. Winning Game Six in Houston, the Braves took the World Series trophy back to Atlanta for celebrations.

Despite losing major stars in the off-season, both teams are still considered favorites to win their leagues.

Freddie Freeman departed from the Braves to sign a long-term contract with the dominant Los Angeles Dodgers.

Carlos Correa, the shortstop for the Astros, signed a shorter deal with the Minnesota Twins, which could potentially lead to him playing for another team soon.

The BetMGM Nevada Sportsbook states that the odds for the Astros to win the American League pennant are +475.

The Braves, with odds of +600, are second favorites behind the Dodgers (+250) to win the National League title.

Odds To Win The 2022 World Series

Both teams that participated in last year’s MLB championship series are among the top 10 teams with the shortest odds to win this year’s World Series.

The odds for the Astros to win the World Series are +1000, while for the Braves, they are +1200.

BetMGM operates sportsbooks nationally, but occasionally, the odds at their Nevada locations differ from those across the rest of the nation.

Here are the odds for each MLB team to win the World Series at BetMGM Nevada:

The Los Angeles Dodgers are at +500, the Toronto Blue Jays are at +900, the Houston Astros and New York Mets are both at +1000. The New York Yankees and Chicago White Sox are at +1100, followed by the Atlanta Braves at +1200. The Tampa Bay Rays are listed at +1400, with the Milwaukee Brewers and San Diego Padres at +1600. The Boston Red Sox are at +1800, the St. Louis Cardinals at +2000, and the San Francisco Giants, Seattle Mariners, Los Angeles Angels, and Philadelphia Phillies are all at +2500. The Detroit Tigers are at +3500, and the Minnesota Twins at +5000. The Miami Marlins are at +6600, the Texas Rangers at +8000, and the Cincinnati Reds, Cleveland Guardians, Kansas City Royals, Oakland Athletics, Chicago Cubs, and Washington Nationals are all at +10000. The Colorado Rockies are at +20000, and the Arizona Diamondbacks, Pittsburgh Pirates, and Baltimore Orioles are all at +25000.

Contrary to many other sports, the MLB futures odds at BetMGM align with those across the country. The top three teams bet on at BetMGM sportsbooks throughout the US are:

  • 11.2% of the bets are placed on the Mets to win the World Series.
  • Dodgers 11.0 percent
  • 8.7% Blue Jays

If any of these teams win the World Series, BetMGM will face the largest liability:

  • Mets
  • Phillies
  • Jays that are Blue

MLB Player Awards Betting

Before the nationwide expansion of sports betting, individual player props and futures represented a minor market. However, this is shifting as numerous national media outlets now incorporate player odds when discussing potential award winners.

BetMGM, along with other sportsbooks in Nevada, currently provides a wide range of individual player bets both before and throughout the season. This is a preview of the three individual player futures with the lowest odds offered by BetMGM Nevada.

2022 MVP Odds

AL MVP

  • Shohei Otani has odds of +350.
  • Mike Trout has odds of +450.
  • Vladamir Guerrero Jr. is at +500.

Interesting to note: Despite BetMGM receiving more bets on Louis Roberts to win the AL MVP than any other player, his odds remain at +3000.

NL MVP

  • Juan Soto has odds of +300.
  • Ronald Acuna Jr. is at +700.
  • Bryce Harper and Mookie Betts have odds of +1000.

Important note: After being declared unfit for the start of the season due to an injury, Fernando Tatis’s odds dropped to +2000.

BetMGM holds the highest number of tickets for Harper to win the NL MVP compared to any other player. However, Marcell Ozuna (+8000) tops the list in terms of the amount of money wagered for winning the same award.

2022 Cy Young Odds

AL Cy Young

  • Gerrit Cole has odds of +425.
  • Shane Beiber: Plus 800
  • Lucas Giolito has odds of +1100.

Shohei Ohtani (+2000) has received more bets to win the AL Cy Young than any other player. However, Giolito has attracted more money in wagers to win the AL Cy Young than all other players.

NL Cy Young

  • Max Sherzer has odds of +600.
  • Corbin Burnes has odds of +800.
  • Walker Beuhler has odds of +900.

Rewritten: Regrettably, Jacob deGrom’s odds fell to +1200 following the revelation of his recent injury. Before the injury, he had more bets and money placed on him than any other player. Currently, BetMGM holds the highest liability on Ranger Suarez from the Philadelphia Phillies.

2022 Rookie Of The Year Odds

Tracking the odds for Rookie of the Year can be quite exciting. Just like the odds for all other players, these can significantly change throughout the year based on the players’ performances.

New players exhibit more volatility compared to those with a proven track record. The odds for the Rookie Of The Year undergo some of the most significant and regular fluctuations throughout the year. This provides ample opportunities to identify players at favorable prices who could potentially yield substantial returns by the end of the season.

AL Rookie Of The Year

  • Bobby Witt Jr. is at +300.
  • Julio Rodriguez is at +400.
  • Spencer Torkelson has odds of +500.

Julio Rodriguez is unquestionably the leading candidate for AL Rookie of The Year. The Mariners rookie has attracted more bets and funds than any other player. Additionally, he poses the greatest risk for BetMGM.

NL Rookie Of The Year

  • Suzuki Seiya: +350
  • Cruz Oneil: +425
  • Hunter Green: Plus 700

Helpful hint: Cruz will begin the season in the minor leagues.

Fernando Tatis Jr. will not start the season with the San Diego Padres, which puts the spotlight on the new shortstop. C.J. Abrams, who currently has odds of +1000, is the player with the most money and bets placed on him to win the NL Rookie Of The Year, surpassing all other contenders.

2022 MLB Rules Changes

This year, the MLB has implemented a few rule changes.

These could influence regular-season games more than future odds. The major alteration is the permission for all teams to utilize a designated hitter. While pitchers can still bat, generally, this will result in fewer pitchers at bat.

While the majority of pitchers won’t be batting, those that do have the opportunity to remain in the game post-pitching. This is made possible by the “Ohtani Rule”, which permits pitchers who also bat in a game, such as 2021 AL MVP Shohei Ohtani, to continue in the game as batters even after their pitching stint is over.

This regulation could pave the way for intriguing Opener/DH possibilities. While Ohtani is unique in his ability to pitch extensively and bat, several batters might excel at throwing for an inning or two.

During the MLB season, the number of active players on rosters varies. Teams can have up to 28 players until May 1st, with an additional player allowed for doubleheaders. After the opening month, the roster decreases to 26 players.

Starting from May 2, each MLB roster can only accommodate 13 pitchers. Furthermore, only pitchers and two-way players are permitted on the 15-day Injured List. This might decrease the frequency of pitchers moving between major and minor league franchises.
