Warm-Up Tournaments

The initial four days (April 1-4) of the event showcased 12 warm-up activities with buy-ins varying from $30 to $100. Seth Palansky, Caesars Interactive Entertainment’s Vice President of Corporate Communications, informed Play Innevada that the Spring Online Championships have gotten off to a robust start and that record numbers of players from Nevada and New Jersey continue to participate on WSOP.com.

Quarantined poker players are flocking to the website in large numbers. The tournaments are experiencing more participation than anticipated. Palansky reveals that “within the first five days of April and this new series we’ve organized, we’re seeing fantastic user involvement. Our warm-up events (12 events) have awarded $634,408 in prize money, surpassing the guaranteed total for these events, which was $247,500.”

He states the guaranteed prizes exceed expectations by 256%. Indeed, it’s not a shabby beginning.

Spring Online Championship Highlights

WSOP.com will organize the Sunday Special Edition every Sunday of the Spring Online Championships until April 26. These are No-Limit Hold’em events with either a $215 or $320 buy-in, and they consistently have a minimum guarantee of $100,000. The series will conclude with the Main Event on May 3, which is a $525 buy-in tournament with a $300,000 guarantee.

The Spring Online Championships features two Player Appreciation tournaments as one of its main attractions. These tournaments, scheduled for April 26 and May 3 at 1:00 pm PT, are promoted as “$100 for $100K” events. Each tournament requires a $100 buy-in and guarantees a prize pool of $100,000.

WSOP.com will also introduce prizes that will be randomly allocated to participating players. Those who participate will be entered into a draw for one of the following:

  • Each of the 2 winners will receive $500 in cash.
  • Each of the 4 winners will receive $250 in cash.
  • Each of the 10 winners will receive $100 in cash.

The highlights also feature the Special Tuesday Showdown, which requires a buy-in of $500 and guarantees $75,000. The High Roller events need a buy-in of $1,000, and the PLO High Roller demands a $500 buy-in with a $40,000 guarantee. There are smaller events in PLO and PLO-8 as well. A majority of the larger events provide rake-free, “all-in” satellites.

Almost 100 tournaments are yet to be played in the Spring Online Championships. Daily cash games are also available. For a complete list of the remaining tournaments for this month, please check WSOP.com.
